If he was living in a very cold climate as like in the northern US or in
Canada he would have to find a way to heat his home, or freeze solid! He
would use a lot of propane in a very cold climate.

As for electricity, I would have triple the wattage for the solar panels
and a large bank of chargeable car batteries to supply power for at night
    and during long dark periods.

I am sure very few women would want to live with him under the conditions
he is living under… He is lucky to find a girl friend that likes to live
    that way.

Bottom line… This is great. I am the type to go for something like this!

Great video! Im 20 years of age and currently in the process of saving
money and doing as much research as i can about living off grid and
enjoying freedom it brings. I have goals of making this move within the
next 5-10 years and my question for you is what advice do you have for a
youngster like me who has dreams of owning his own homestead!

if you have a small farm would be mutch better.
when you have a small house you need a garden so you spend some time
    outside and dont become claustrofobic.

Did you build this house yourself? Or did someone build the house for you?
And if someone built the house for you.. was that $2000 inclusive for their
    labor as well?

This is why our society is a joke, we could build our own houses for 5,000
but we decide to buy a house for 200,000… and pay it off for the rest of
    our lives

“I want you to take a minute and think about what you could do with your
life without any house payments, or utility bills.” …. That’s some
    powerful stuff right there.

I would love to do this but my only problem would be having inspectors and
city trying to shut you down for not having Utilities and they see it as
unfit, unsanitary and whatever code to shut you down and condemn. I know
you don’t want do this in a city area or sub division. Just somewhere in
the backroads or “country” with an address to be fine. And close enough to
get to a store and highspeed internet.

I know in some states it’s easier than others to build your own house like
this. Where I live now (CA) it’s probably not going to be so easy
(inspection and codes). But that’s just a guess.

I’d like to build a straw building. Originally I thought to do it in NM
    because their laws are better.

paying 400 monthly rent 300 utility bill. this is really the cheapest and

Thanks for sharing this valuable advice. It is good to know there is an
alternative for people who have problems to afford their mortgages.
Additionally, this lifestyle allows you to grow your own food and as you
already mentioned – you can enjoy a peaceful life.
